Microneedling

Milton & The Greater Toronto Area
Microneedling, also known as collagen induction therapy, is a cosmetic procedure that involves using a device with fine needles to create controlled micro-injuries to the skin. The procedure is intended to stimulate the body’s natural healing processes, which in turn can lead to the production of collagen and elastin, resulting in improved skin texture and firmness. Microneedling is often used to treat acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles, as well as to improve the overall appearance of the skin.
Microneedling Using the DP4™ Pen
At Illustria Medical Aesthetics we offer microneedling for skin and hair rejuvenation using the DP4™ pen .
This microneedling device glides over the skin, creating millions of microchannels on the surface that stimulate the body’s natural repair process and allow for topical nutrients to be better absorbed right into the skin. This results in increased production of healthy collagen and elastin, skin resurfacing and retexturizing, and overall skin renewal.

Is microneedling painful?
Microneedling is not painful but can be uncomfortable, and it can be done without any anesthesia. However, Dr. Ogbeide prefers to apply a topical numbing cream to the skin before each treatment, making it a comfortable procedure. Some people may experience mild redness or swelling after the treatment, but these side effects usually resolve within a few days.

Bennifits of Microneedling from Illustria Medical Aesthetics
Microneedling involves using fine needles to create tiny punctures in the skin. The procedure is believed to stimulate collagen production, which can improve the appearance of fine lines, wrinkles, acne scars, and other skin imperfections. Some of the potential benefits of microneedling include:
Improving skin texture and tone: Microneedling can help to smooth out rough, uneven skin and improve the overall appearance of the skin.
Reducing the appearance of acne scars: The procedure can help to reduce the appearance of acne scars by stimulating the skin to produce collagen, which can help to fill in the depressed areas left by the scars.
Minimizing fine lines and wrinkles: By stimulating collagen production, microneedling can help to plump up the skin and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles.
Improving the effectiveness of skin care products: The tiny punctures created by the needles can increase the absorption of skin care products, making them more effective.
It can also be used to treat certain conditions, such as alopecia (hair loss) and stretch marks.
It’s important to note that microneedling is not a one-time treatment and requires several sessions to see results. Also, it is important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by Illustria Medical Aesthetics.
How Does Microneedling Work?
Microneedling works by creating tiny punctures in the skin using a device called a derma roller or a dermapen. These punctures, also known as “micro-injuries,” trigger the body’s natural healing response, which leads to the production of new collagen and elastin. Collagen and elastin are the two main proteins that give the skin its strength, elasticity, and structure.
The derma roller, or dermapen, is equipped with fine needles that are used to create punctures in the skin. The needles range in size from 0.5 mm to 2.5 mm. The needles are sterilised and disposed of after each use. The procedure is typically done on the face, but it can also be done on other parts of the body, such as the neck, chest, and hands.
During the procedure, Dr. Ogbeide will clean your skin and then apply a numbing cream to reduce any discomfort. The derma roller, or dermapen, is then moved over the skin in a series of passes, with the needles making contact with the skin at a 90-degree angle. The number of passes and the needle size will depend on the area being treated and the desired outcome.
After the procedure, Dr. Ogbeide will apply a hydrating serum or moisturiser to soothe the skin. The skin may be red and slightly swollen for a few days after the treatment, but this typically subsides within a few days. It is important to avoid sun exposure, use sunscreen, and not use active skincare products for a few days after the treatment.
It’s important to note that the effects of microneedling may not be immediately visible, and it may take several sessions to see the desired results. It is also important to follow the aftercare instructions provided by your practitioner to ensure the best possible outcome.
