Botox (botulinum toxin) is a protein derived from the bacteria Clostridium botulinum. It is a prescription medication that is used to treat a variety of medical conditions, including cosmetic conditions like fine lines and wrinkles, as well as medical conditions like chronic migraines, excessive sweating, muscle spasms, and teeth grinding (bruxism).
How does Botox® work?
Botox® is delivered via a thin needle into muscles in the face, causing the targeted muscles to relax and preventing them from contracting and creating wrinkles. Botox® is ideal for smoothing the skin and reducing lines between the eyebrows, on the forehead, and crow’s feet around the eyes. It can also be used to relax muscle in the jaw, and to reduce the activity of sweat glands in the armpits.

What are the benefits of Botox?
Unlike a face-lift or other invasive procedures, Botox® takes minutes and requires zero downtime. You can go back to work or continue on with your day immediately following your treatment. It creates natural-looking results and there’s no decrease in sensation or numbness in the treated areas. The effects last roughly 3-9months, depending on the area treated.

Does Botox® hurt?
Fortunately, the needles used for Botox injection treatments are extremely small. This along with only a tiny amount of medication that is needed, means Botox treatments cause a minimal amount of discomfort.
If you prefer, Dr. Ogbeide can apply topical anaesthetic cream and/or ice compresses for several minutes before the treatment to numb the area.
